Joana Quental is a designer, illustrator, lecturer, and former Director of the PhD Program in Design at the University of Aveiro. A member of the Design, Media, and Culture Research Unit (ID+), she also leads the HEAD | Health + Design Lab, a multidisciplinary research group examining design’s role as a mediator in a One Health framework. With a background in Communication Design, a master’s in Multimedia, and a PhD in Design, Joana’s research primarily focuses on illustration, visual culture, and health literacy. She has supervised numerous master’s and doctoral projects in these fields. As a designer, Joana has illustrated several children’s books and developed projects dedicated to health communication for young audiences and the humanization of pediatric hospital spaces.
